On Saturday 14th, the First XI started their HUDL League campaign with a 4-2 win over a strong Bede’s side at home, thanks to an outstanding hat-trick by Nick Avetoom.
The match began with Bede’s enjoying more of the possession, but Hampton remained solid and patient behind the ball.
The deadlock was soon broken as Joe Turton’s in-swinging cross landed at the feet of Nick Avetoom, who pulled off a driven volley across the keeper, scoring into the side-netting. 1-0 Hampton.
The boys doubled their lead moments later, when a combining move from Dexter Boyle and Ollie Swetman created the perfect opportunity for Nick Avetoom to, once again, slot a shot past Bede’s keeper.
Hampton’s continued hard work on and off the ball was rewarded when their lead was further extended as James Queen’s low cross was finished calmy by Dexter Boyle.
In the second-half, Avetoom completed his hat-trick after Rudy Mills’ cross saw another composed finish from Hampton’s right-winger.
Despite their emphatic lead, Hampton conceded two avoidable goals in the last five minutes of the game, leaving the final score at 4-2 to Hampton. Yet, this was still an impressive performance from the squad as they earned three points to start the season.
Goals: Nick Avetoom (3), Dexter Boyle (1).
Assists: Joe Turton (1), Ollie Swetman (1), James Queen (1), Rudy Mills (1).
