It was on Saturday 20 September that the Under 12 Rugby Bs had their first fixture against RGS.
It was a bit of a tough start, as Hampton were running up the slope, and they had not yet mastered the wet and slippery conditions. There were too many fumbles, and Hampton found themselves giving the ball away too much. But after a tricky start, Hampton started to gain some momentum.
About 10 minutes into the half, Hampton spotted the space on the wing and passed it down to Ren Findlay playing at fly-half. Findlay ran into the space in front of him and secured the first try of the match.
After that try, RGS put more pressure on Hampton and started to work their way up field.
Hampton released the pressure beautifully with another try from Findlay in the corner. At half time the score read 2-0 to Hampton.
Hampton started off the second half very well, as a great carry from Finlay Clay got them far up the pitch. This then led to Hampton’s third try on the wing.
RGS did not give up and fought back with two tries in quick succession. With about five minutes left on the clock it was getting very close and both sides were desperate to score. But Hampton held their nerve and ensured that RGS didn’t score another try. Findlay went away with three tries and Hampton secured their first win of the season.
The score read as 3-2 to Hampton.
