Hampton’s U12Cs put on dominant display in 6-2 victory over Dulwich

by Theo Payne

On a biting afternoon out on the 3G, the U12 C’s recorded yet another win, keeping a stellar winning streak alive.

The U12 C’s took to the pitch with their recent 4-2 win over Kings Wimbledon still fresh in their memories. The game began with another fast Hampton start, with continuous attacks through the mid-field. Though threatening, the ball couldn’t find its way into the back of the net until the opposition keeper spilt a thunderbolt of a shot from the edge of the box; the ball was driven home at the far post by the right winger. The game continued to move on quickly, with through balls constantly challenging the Dulwich defence. With a great assist from the Hampton keeper Wilf Waterworth and another swift play through the midfield (finished brilliantly from outside the box by Jayen Li), the score soon became 3-0.

But Dulwich wasn’t done yet. They gradually grew into the game, generating good chances of their own (notably striking the woodwork twice in the build-up to half-time). However, on the cusp of half-time, an own goal from their right back resulted in a half-time scoreline of 4-0.

The second half began even faster than the first, with persisting attacks down the right-hand side bothering the Hampton defence. Despite the Dulwich onslaught, Hampton kept a clean sheet thanks to some brilliant saves early on in the second half by the other Hampton keeper, Emile Steimberg. Hampton struck again when a Dulwich corner was gathered and hastily distributed to the left winger Stephane Ansel, who then passed it to the midfielder Toby Woods, who fired a cannon into the right inside the net.

Despite the setback, the Dulwich right winger and their central midfielder reduced the deficit to three goals. Still, they proved only to be consolation, as Hampton converted yet another chance in the closing minutes, finishing the game on a high, with the score ending at 6-2—another highly satisfactory and well-deserved victory.
