1st XI reach second final in two weeks with 2-1 win at KGS

By Maxi Grindley

The 1st XI beat Kingston Grammar School 2-1 to progress to the final of the London Independent Schools Cup.

At first the game was closely-fought with neither side finding space to exploit on the small pitch. But after a couple of near misses, it was Hampton who scored first with a Harry Short free kick deflecting off the wall into the goal.

Just before half-time KGS equalised with a rebound after the ball came off the post, much to the delight of their pitchside fans.

The second half continued to be a cagey affair as both sides were more focused on avoiding defeat than winning. It was Shaun-Chris Joash who scored the winner, turning his man before finishing in the bottom corner.

Hampton then had to survive a prolonged aerial bombardment as KGS threatened to equalise and take the game to extra time.
