Hampton connection: OH duo line-up for Cambridge in reserve Boat Race

By Ben Martis-Jones, Rowing Correspondent

This weekend sees the 164th Men’s Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge University over the 4.2 mile Championship Course between Putney and Mortlake.

With Hampton’s strong Oxbridge entry year after year, it’s no wonder that the school has provided the University Boat Race with many competitors over the years.

Most famously in 2003, Hampton had two sets of brothers, the Livingstons and the Smiths, who competed in both crews in the University Boat Race that day.

This year, Cambridge Fresher Charlie Marcus (OH 2018), who competed as a GB junior during his time at Hampton while coxing the 1st VIII, has been selected to cox the Men’s Reserve Crew for Cambridge on Sunday 7th.

He follows in the footsteps of Sam Collier (OH 2014) who coxed Oxford’s flagship crew for two years straight in 2016 and 2017.

Joining Marcus will be another Hampton alumnus in the form of Tim Nugent (OH 2014), who is currently studying Engineering at Jesus College. Nugent will be sitting in the third seat, and we wish both him and Marcus the best of luck tomorrow!

You can catch the Men’s Reserve Race at 2:45pm on BBC1, 25 minutes before the Men’s Blue Boat Race.
