1st XI progress in ISFA with win over Abingdon
By Maxi Grindley
Hampton’s 1st XI overcame Abingdon School 4-1 to progress to the next round of the ISFA Cup.
Both teams started the game slowly, despite the ball zipping about on the fast 3G surface, due to the rain which had fallen before the match.
In the end, it was Louis Instrall who broke the deadlock, his shot from distance taking a deflection to loop over the goalkeeper.
Sami Omaar then doubled the lead so that Hampton went into the break with a comfortable two goal lead.
The second half started in similar style to the first, with Abingdon slowing down play as Hampton were unable to stamp their characteristic quick passing style on the game.
The game was put beyond doubt when Instrall and Freddy Hodgson converted crosses from Denil Manuel, who had been terrorising the opposition’s defence since coming on.
Complacency cost Hampton as they conceded a late consolation, but overall a strong performance ensured there was no upset.
