Hampton’s Greatest Sporting Moments: First XI join rowers in quarter-finals with thrilling poll win

Hampton’s First XI were crowned winners of Group Three in HSC’s Hampton’s Greatest Sporting Moments series after a thrilling vote saw them finish just ahead of Greg and Jonny Searle’s Olympic Gold.

The First XI, whose ESFA triumph in 2019 was the moment featured, join the 1988 Triple-winning rowers and Chris Mahoney in the quarter-finals, which will take place later this term upon the conclusion of the group stage.

The poll was excruciatingly close until the death – just minutes before the vote closed, the First XI were trailing the Searles, but a last-minute push helped them to victory with 47% of the 647 votes. The Searles finished just behind, with 46%.

The competition continues on Monday with Group Four.
