Hampton’s Greatest Sporting Moments: Boat Race 2003 becomes sixth moment to reach knockout stage
By Josh Bartholomew
The Boat Race of 2003, which featured two sets of OH brothers (the Livingstons and the Smiths) won Group Six with a resounding poll victory. Securing 54 per cent of the vote, the moment cast aside its competition.
The next best competitor, Zafar Ansari’s Golden Summer (2010), was close behind, winning 30 per cent of the support. Simon Amor and Andy Beattie’s England U18 tour, along with the Chess team’s British Open win in 2002, were the other moments involved.
The Boat Race becomes the sixth moment to reach the quarter-finals, following in the footsteps of: the First VIII’s Henley victory in 1985, Calogero Scannella’s ISFA-winning hat-trick (2015), the First XI’s ESFA win (2019), Chris Mahoney’s Olympic glory, and the 1988 Triple-winning crew.
There are eight moments remaining in HSC‘s competition – there are two more pool stages, to take place over the next two weeks, before the quarter-finals occur later this month.
Hampton’s Greatest Sporting Moments will return on Monday with Group Seven.
