3-2 win sees U15A’s progression to semi-finals

By Daniel Mills

On a cold Saturday morning the Hampton U15A’s arrived at school ready to face a strong Whitgift team. Other matches taking place on that morning were cancelled due to frosty pitches but the U15As’, having been moved to the 3G, went ahead given it was the deciding match to see who would top the group and move on to the semi-finals.

The match began with Hampton on top, but after a while Whitgift grew into the game and took the lead through a well struck finish in the bottom corner. The referee blew his whistle for halftime, Hampton knowing they were on top and shouldn’t be losing. After some words of encouragement at half-time from Mr Haynes, Hampton ran out from the team huddle, ready for the second half.

Hampton started the second half even better than the first. After 20 minutes, the ball was played out to Sam Moylen-Jones on the right wing and with a outstanding cross, and brilliant skill in the box from Nick Avertoom, he slotted the ball into the back of the net. Minutes after, Hampton were 2-1 up, with a very similar movement to the first goal, Moylen-Jones setting up Avertoom with another pinpoint cross from the right.

Hampton had the momentum and with that, the same two people combined for a third goal for Hampton, but this time Avertoom set up Moylen-Jones with a nice through ball and a calm finish. With about 5 minutes left in the match, Whitgift got a goal back but it wasn’t enough, as Hampton got the important win to take them into the semi-finals of the Elgin League. There were great performances from everyone, semi-finals here we come!
