U15As earn 2-0 victory over Dr Challoner’s Grammar School
By Daniel Mills
On a sunny, Saturday morning the Hampton U15A team faced up against Dr Challoner’s Grammar School after Hampton’s impressive win in the Elgin League semi-final. The match started very evenly between the two sides with both defences defending well and not letting much past. Although Hampton were away, that didn’t make a difference as they still managed to pass the ball around successfully throughout the match. During the whole of the first half, there weren’t many chances at either end, as neither goalkeeper was called into action.
With a good team talk from Mr Haynes, Hampton came out for the second half and were much the better team. Forcing saves from the opposition keeper, Hampton had many corners, one of them almost leading to a breakthrough in the game. With some good play down the left, Hampton won another corner. A great ball by Sam Moylan-Jones was put into the box and the tall centre back Louis Basing was there to head the ball into the back of the net.
There were still fifteen minutes left in the match, so the U15As had to defend well, whilst of course also wanting the second goal. Hampton were creating many chances and with about 5 minutes left in the match, yet another corner was won. Once again, Sam Moylan-Jones put a brilliant ball into the box and this time Nick Avetoom was there to head the ball into the net. 2-0. With an amazing performance from Hampton, especially in the second half, they earned a well-fought victory.
