Moffatt hat-trick guides U15As to resounding victory over KCS

By Alex Watson

25 minutes gone and already a win seemed a certainty for the U15As. An impressive first-half hat-trick from midfielder Charlie Moffatt, consisting of a penalty, a low drive to the bottom-left corner and a deflected finish which trickled over the line, put Hampton 3-0 up in no time. Moffatt repaid Rio Felonov-Tzanev, whose dogged work created his opening two goals shortly before half time, as a smooth team move resulted in him squaring the ball across the box to the U15A striker for a simple finish.

On a cold, quiet day on the 3G, the Fourth Years, while not at their best, took firm control of the game in the second half. Their patient passing was rewarded when centre-back and captain Alessandro Cardinale managed to set Finley Milner through on goal with a clever chipped pass over the helpless King’s defence. Milner, greeted by the onrushing King’s goalkeeper, kept his cool, sidestepping his adversary and sliding home the easiest of finishes.

A firm strike from the edge of the box which found the roof of the net provided Hampton’s opponents with a much-welcomed consolation goal, but a comeback was never on the cards. Some late running from Alex Watson provided Adam Malik with a chance to make the scoreline 6-1 in the hosts’ favour, and he rounded the defender well before opening up his body to finish into the bottom-right corner.

A routine but still encouraging win for the U15As as they look forward to an ISFA quarter-final and important Elgin League fixtures.
