Second-half goals carry U12Ds to victory over Cardinal Vaughan
By Caesar Chen
On Friday 2 February, Hampton U12D team prepared for what would be an exciting game against Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School.
Cardinal started from kick-off with a few passes round the back which led to Yousuf Hussain pressing up to try and win the ball. Just a few minutes into the game, Justin Kim broke through the defence and hammered a shot into the back of the net to give Hampton the lead.
Cardinal once again started in the centre before giving away a corner. A seemingly inevitable goal was stopped by an excellent save by Cardinal’s keeper, who then hit it far to launch a counter. The defenders desperately sprinted back to stop the oncoming attack, but it was too late to deny an equaliser. Hampton took control of the ball and started peppering the keeper with all kinds of shots: low, high, power, everything; but nothing worked.
Half-Time Score: Hampton 1-1 Cardinal
Goals: Justin Kim
In the second half. Hampton started the game strong, as Bruno Entenza Hueso was back on the field and more than ready to be competitive. Around 5 minutes in however, Bruno was down the right wing… crossing into the middle…goal! Bruno scores an absolute screamer which goes right in the top-left corner: an amazing start to the second half!
Bruno, the star of the game currently, hits another cross that lands short of the penalty box before being curled into the back of the net by vice-captain Theo Pack.
Not long after, Bruno is met with another chance that he expertly pounded into the back of the net. The struggles weren’t over as every chance Cardinal got; they launched attacks on which the Hampton defence coped with amazingly.
Then a mistake was forced, which led to Tomo Sudo having the chance of a lifetime… unfortunately it just hit the crossbar. The ref soon blew the whistle to signal full time.
