Victory over Millfield sees 1st XI climb to top of Hudl League

By Harry McLusky

Hampton’s 1st XI have reached the top of the Hudl League following their recent victory over Millfield School. Goals from Nicholas Avetoom, Dexter Boyle and Jamie Wilson earnt them a comfortable 3-0 victory to guide them to 1st place.

Hudl Independent Schools League is comprised of nine of the best footballing schools up and down the country, including Shrewsbury School, who the 1st XI faced in last year’s ESFA final.

Hampton were slightly slow out of the blocks in the competition at the start of this season. Despite an initial 2-3 victory away against Bede’s School, subsequent draws against Royal Russell School and Ardingly College, as well as a 1-2 loss against Bradfield College left them on just four points from four games – 6th in the table.

Nonetheless, the 1st XI’s rich vein of form began shortly after. Avetoom and Wilson yet again linked up to come out on top against Repton, with both providing goals in a 2-0 victory.

Against Charterhouse, Wilson scored again, with Ben Moffatt also providing a great strike to make it two wins on the trot with a hard-fought 2-1 victory away from home.

Their 3-0 triumph over Millfield on the 3G made it three, deservedly putting them top of the standings going into the half-term break.

Second-placed Bradfield do have two games in hand over Hampton, but topping such a prestigious league is an incredible achievement in itself. The side will switch their focus to their final fixture against Shrewsbury School in early March, which will be a repeat of last year’s ESFA final, which saw the 1st XI lift their second ESFA trophy in four years.

Despite disappointment in both national cup competitions (ISFA and ESFA) this year, the season is certainly not over. With the Hudl League within their reach and the London IS Cup quarter-final fast approaching, there is still plenty for the side to play for going into the final few weeks of the spring term.
