1st XI achieve record Hudl League finish with 3-0 win over Shrewsbury
By Harry McLusky
Hampton’s 1st XI have achieved their highest ever Hudl League position, finishing in an impressive second place out of nine schools up and down the country.
The side fell just three points short of an incredibly strong Bradfield College, who claimed their second Hudl victory in three years to accompany their ISFA triumph and ESFA semi-final.
Goals from Jamie Wilson, Zain Suterwalla and Nicholas Avetoom secured a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Shrewsbury School to move top of the league and finish their season on a high.
However, Bradfield swiftly reclaimed top spot leaving Hampton agonisingly close to what would have been a historic achievement. Nonetheless, the 1st XI can certainly be proud of their record-breaking performance.
Along with their win over Shrewsbury, victories over Bede’s School, Repton, Charterhouse and Millfield guided the 1st XI to second place, with their only loss coming against the eventual winners, Bradfield.
Co-captain, Jamie Wilson played a key role in the side’s success, scoring crucial goals in all of their victories, as well as a vital brace in a 2-2 draw with Ardingly.
The 1st XI will now look forward to tomorrow’s Surrey Cup final against Epsom College after a convincing 5-1 victory over Grey Court secured their spot in the game at Meadowbank, the home of Dorking Wanderers FC.
