Hampton U15A’s ESFA win vs Therfield School: a different perspective
By Leo Nishida
Editor’s note: This match has also been reported by fellow U15A footballer, Tom Scrimshaw, but – as they say – the first time was so nice, we had to do it twice! Enjoy a different perspective on the win from Leo Nishida.
Hampton started the match strongly. Hampton dominated the game and created lots of good chances, however lacked in composure and finishing touch.
The opening goal would come from a solo run from Rufus Lawson who squared the ball to Oliver Khaksar on the counter-attack. The half would end 1-0 to Hampton.
Hampton resumed with the fluency they had before the break. Another goal would soon come from Khaksar, his second in the match.
Hampton’s possession and domination led to many chances; but, unlike the first half, this time the home side was far more clinical. Ned Leonard’s goal, beautifully assisted by Ben Whitely was followed by a solo run from Alex Pollock on the counter-attack and a composed finish from Leo Nishida, cutting back on his left foot into the box, sealing victory.
In the end, it was a comfortable 5-0 win by Hampton, securing their position in the next round of the ESFA Cup vs Overton Grange School.
After the match, the Hampton coach Mr Boyes reflected on the match: “It was a good solid performance to get our ESFA campaign up and running. We controlled the game well and eventually converted our dominance into goals. A third consecutive clean sheet is also fantastic and bodes well for a tough run into half-term that’s set to include Elgin School, as well as our ISFA and ESFA cup ties.”
