Arriving at Hanworth Road, there was nervous anticipation in the air with Hampton’s U15A Rugby team itching to get their first win after a narrow defeat to RGS High Wycombe in the week prior.
After a 45-minute warm up with some handling and pad drills to prepare the team physically for the match ahead, the U15s were soon ready to chase down the kick from Christian O and attempt to get an early try on the board against Ewell Castle.
As a result of an uncharacteristically poor chase, Hampton let the opposition winger navigate the pitch unopposed, allowing Ewell Castle a very early breakthrough.
Aware that they were better than this, Hampton soon turned a page and ran back to chase the kick, immediately putting pressure on their adversaries by flying into the rucks, with Aaron J making some big tackles.
Luckily, it didn’t take long for Hampton to make their own breakthrough, with Pablo RB shrugging off defenders to score a try.
From then on, it was fluid rugby, with tries from Christian O and a brilliant diving try in the corner from Ben F to put the team in black and yellow 32-7 up at the break, exhausted but very pleased with themselves.
Wary of not letting themselves slip in the second half, Hampton came out playing the same entertaining, attacking rugby with tries from Aaron J, Christian O and two late tries from Toby B, including a great run for his first effort.
The proceedings ended in a resounding victory of 56-7, fully deserved given the excellent performance by the Hampton side.
Hampton’s U15As now look ahead to next week’s fixture against KCS Wimbledon with plenty of confidence, before turning their focus to the big cup match against London Oratory that follows.
