2nd XI beat St. Bede’s convincingly to kickstart season

By Maxi Grindley

Hampton’s 2nd XI beat their Bede’s School counterparts 4-0 on Saturday, an impressive statement of intent for the coming season.

The side had only trained together briefly as the Senior teams’ composition was still being decided this early in the season.

The game got off to a slow start with both sides keeping possession but being quite cautious in their approach to the game.

It was Lucas Copplestone who broke the deadlock, calming finishing with a shot past the goalkeeper when put through on goal.

The second goal was the pick of the bunch with Joseph Helm putting in a volleyed cross for Lucas Copplestone to turn in on the volley.

At half-time Hampton were good value for their two-goal lead but Bede’s clearly possessed the quality to get back in the match.

Ultimately though it was Hampton who scored the next goal, with Lucas Copplestone completing his hat-trick by poking in a parried shot.

Sam van der Poel provided the final flourish with a fine run and finish to ensure Hampton ran out 4-0 victors.
