Resilient display by U12Bs gives them 2-0 victory over Sutton Grammar

By Harry Morris

Hampton’s U12Bs got off to a sluggish start on Friday with Sutton Grammar School’s A-team’s relentless attacks putting Hampton under constant pressure. Hampton were lucky not to have let in a goal or two and their players struggled to create many chances or pressurize the opposition defence, with Sutton dominating possession. If Hampton had stayed like this for the rest of the match, then defeat would have been inevitable, but somehow Hampton got through the half without conceding a goal. However, this was the first time the U12Bs have not scored in the first half this season.

Half-time score 0-0

Hampton, after having a pep talk from Mr Worrall, were fired up for the second-half clash, full of confidence as they moved on from the first half and focused on the second. While Sutton were trying to find a well-deserved goal, Hampton were transformed and came back into the game. The second half proved a lot closer, before Finn Timba broke the deadlock and fired a left-footed shot into the roof of the net after a great run. Hampton were now brimming with confidence and with patience they got another goal. Mika Rahman whipped in a corner, and Finn Timba was there to head it in and secure his brace! Hampton defended well for the last seven minutes until the full-time whistle blew. It was another great win for Hampton who are sure to bring their confidence to an ESFA Round 2 match against Three Rivers Academy on Friday 17November.

Second-half goals: Finn Timba (2)

Second-half assists: Mika Rahman
