11-0 win sees First XI advance in Surrey Cup
By Alex Watson
Today, a dominant home performance from Hampton’s 1st XI against The Hollyfield School saw them march into round 2 of the Surrey Cup.
Looking to defend last year’s title, Hampton started the game sharply, scoring after barely a minute as, from an early corner, the ball fell to the feet of Alex Ashton, who prodded it into the net.
Ashton was quick to double his tally as he swept home a cross from left-back Joe Turton, before striker Rio Felonov-Tzanev made it three as he powered through the opposition defence and fired his shot low under the keeper.
Hampton’s comfortable three-goal lead didn’t cause them to ease off, however. Not long before half time, Ashton burst through again, latching onto Charlie Moffat’s through ball, rounding the keeper and passing home to complete a first-half hattrick.
Then, after the break, a push in the box won Hampton a penalty, which was cooly converted by Nick Avetoom. After Ashton netted his fourth, substitute Alex Watson picked up two goals in quick succession, before Avetoom also secured his brace as he scored directly from a freekick.
Winger Joshi Rasi de Mel got in on the action, too, tapping home a dangerous Avetoom cross, before the win was rounded off by a great headed goal from captain Louis Basing.
With the game finishing 11-0, it was the perfect way to round off an impressive half term for Hampton’s 1st XI, which included important wins against Bedes and Bradfield as well as progression to the next round of the ESFA Cup.
Some big fixtures now lie ahead for the Firsts, such as an ESFA Round 3 clash against Whitgift School in their opening game back after the holidays.
