Half term sport: England vs Australia
By Sam Greaney
Although the half term brought with it a break from Hampton sport, Sam Greaney didn’t let that halt his journalism endeavours, as he watches and reports on the England vs Australia Quilter Nations Series match:
The Allianz stadium was ready for an amazing game of test match rugby.
Things started off slowly, with no points on the scoreboard for the first twenty minutes. George Ford then converted a penalty in the 20th minute to make it 3 – 0 to England. Then in the 21st minute Ben Earl scored England’s first try and George Ford made the conversion to make it 10 – 0 to England. In the 34th minute, England were on a very promising attack but Australia’s winger, Harry Potter, intercepted one of England’s passes and ran the length of the pitch to score Australia’s first try of the game and Tane Edmed made the conversion to make the score 10 – 7 to England. No more points went either team’s way before half-time so at the halfway point, the score was 10 – 7 to England.
The second half started off slow for the first 15 minutes but in the 59th minute Henry Pollock scrambled over the line, but George Ford missed the conversion so that made the score 15 – 7 to England. Then in the 72nd minute, Alex Mitchell scored England’s 3rd try of the afternoon, but George Ford missed another conversion to make it 20 – 7 to England. Soon after, Luke Cowan-Dickie scored in the 75th minute but Fin Smith missed the conversion to make it 25 – 7 to England. There were no more points scored before the end so the game finished 25 – 7 to England to kick-start their Quilter Nations Series.
