Late goal sees U13A fall to Glyn in season-opener

By Omer Demiral

Hampton U13A came up against a strong Glyn side in their second match of the season, losing a closely-contested match by two goals to nil.

Hampton started the game well, creating an excellent opportunity in only the second minute. A good through-ball came from midfield but Hampton’s shot was saved.

After a fairly intense and evenly-matched couple of minutes, Hampton posed a real threat with a free-kick in a good position. But the excellent ball into the box was well defended.

Glyn on the other hand were building up pressure with consecutive attacks from the wings. They found the goal in the 14th minute, scoring from inside the box. It was quite a strike, placed in the bottom right corner of the Hampton net.

Glyn threatened again a few minutes later with an ambitious effort from just outside the box that struck the crossbar.

Five minutes later, Hampton crossed from the right and Savan Soni attacked the ball. Unfortunately his effort skimmed off the top of the crossbar, the woodwork denying Hampton an exquisite goal.

The first half ended 1-0 to Glyn. It was an evenly matched game for the first 10 minutes but after that Glyn dominated.

At the start of the second half, Zidane came on for Soni. Hampton started with a lot of energy, confidence and determination, winning a couple of corner kicks early in the second half, but could not capitalise on the opportunities.

12 minutes into the half, Hampton earned a free-kick right outside of the box. But the Hampton shot failed to trouble the keeper.

Glyn started to pose a real threat after the Hampton missed chances. Hampton nearly conceded as Glyn missed a one-on-one opportunity. The ball skipped past the post and out of play.

During another scare a few minutes later, Glyn’s striker chipped the Hampton defender, only for a superb clearance under pressure off the line.
